Master Plan for New Outdoor Sports Fields Complex

Client:
Pinnacle Sports

Construction Cost:
$2,900,000

Completion Date:
2008 (Phase I)

KAI recently developed a Master Plan for existing and newly acquired Pinnacle Sports properties. Phase I of the Master Plan was completed in 2008 and consists of a new outdoor, fully illuminated, multi-purpose synthetic athletic training surface and baseball field. The Gross Square Footage for the new synthetic turf surface is approximately 142,000 SF.

Understanding that the turf selection would be critical to surface water run‐off system estimate, the KAI/Consultant/Owner/Contractor Team researched multiple synthetic field surface manufacturers and products to ensure that the Owner would realize the best value in terms of playability, quality, and cost. KAI and its Civil Engineer, Campbell & Associates, worked closely with synthetic field surface manufacturer to assess the permeability of the new surface and the affect of same on the retention pond design. Multiple schemes were also studied and developed for a variety of baseball field orientations, lighting, and grading options before the final design was ultimately executed. The baseball field portion of the facility included a new backstop, dugouts, fencing, and concrete spectator seating areas.

A new access road and a deceleration lane into the Pinnacle Sports drive from State Route 18 were provided and parking was augmented to provide a total of 304 stalls. KAI also completed the design of a Flag Plaza which incorporates landscaping, flags, and a raised, triangular platform decorated with the Pinnacle Sports logo. As part of the Project Team, KAI endeavored to deliver a product which would satisfy the Owner’s request for premier athletic training fields while respecting the rural and residential character of Granger Township.
