Located in downtown Cleveland on Playhouse Square, the structure is sited on 20,355 SF of land. The odd-shaped parcel has no parallel lines and no 90 degree corners, thus the unique site configuration mandated a highly customized plan. While the site was burdened with these challenging features, ultimately the result was a successful, site-efficient, and cost-effective parking layout.
The City of Cleveland Fine Arts Committee and the Owner dictated that the seven-story, utilitarian garage structure complement and be compatible with the existing, adjoining Renaissance Office Tower.
The rhythmic column pattern of the garage was detailed in the same free-standing manner as the office building. The columns read as vertical shafts, extending the full height of the building and terminating at the large splayed parapet cap. The shafts coincide with a similar feature on the Renaissance Office Tower.
The "poured-in-place" concrete structure of the garage includes dark bronze tinted, tubular, aluminum framing to match that of the office tower. The glass enclosed stair at the corner of Prospect Avenue and East 14th Street is designed and detailed in such a manner to replicate the dual turret features of the existing office building. The stair stands proportionately taller than the rest of the garage, reinforcing the design parallels between garage and office tower.
A direct connector bridge from the garage into the second floor of the office building allowing tenants to pass between structures in a weather protected and secure environment.
