Cleveland Clinic mandated that the open Crown II Parking Deck complement and blend aesthetically with the design of the Crown Centre II medical/office Tower. Thus, the south elevation of the parking deck which directly faces and is parallel to the north elevation of the Tower is designed with the same materials, details and colors of the Tower. KAI designed traffic and pedestrian circulation on the lowest level of the parking deck to allow the future addition of an enclosed walk way. The floor plan of the garage is efficiently configured on a tight site, flows with and ties directly into the existing Crown Centre I deck and yet allows open space to the Tower. A plaza with many potted plants softens the area between the structures.
530 parking spaces are added to the site in the new three-level parking deck. The structure for the deck is a cast-in-place post-tensioned system, while the existing curtainwall system of the glass-backed elevator and lobby matches the Crown Centre I & II towers. The open stairs are protected by standing seam metal roof canopies.
